2025 my year of KAIROS
18 December 2024
So 2025 will be my Kairos year. It will be fun to be so consciously engaged with Kairos and to capture as many images as possible for the Kairos clock. At the same time, it will also be hard work. Because I’m far from always being able to see, experience and feel Kairos myself. After all, Kairos is not only present in time. Kairos is present in almost anything: for example images, sound, language and behaviour!
And that triggers my thinking. For in terms of visual language, I cautiously do manage to capture Kairos, but in terms of my own behaviour, there is plenty of room for improvement. Necessary improvement, because only with the right attitude, with the right understanding of Kairos, I’m able to built the clock and to convince others of the importance and usefulness of Kairos: the forgotten god of time.
I am looking forward to next year. I expect it to be fun, insightful and full of wonderful Kairos time

Yesterday I did my kairos-kick-off-lecture at ‘de Museumfabriek” in Enschede.
Many thanks to demuseumfabriek.nl for facilitating the evening and to QAQS.nl for the invitation. It was a precious evening and a valuable start for my year of Kairos.
I’m happy to share some feedback from the audience.
Feedback from an audience member:
‘The fact that I look at those images, just moving on while you are narrating, makes me focus on the present. It challenges me to just dare to let it happen.
For me that’s Kairos’.
A question from the audience for me further to research:
‘I sit and watch it, it is soothing, it is Kairos, like on Sundays when you were bored as a toddler and watched the softly buzzing plane high in the sky, total emptiness and yes I think: if I am watching this by myself: is it more or less Kairos than when we all watch it together’.

My year of Kairos starts as early as 2024:
on Tuesday evening 3 December
I am giving a talk at the Museumfabriek in Enschede
in the QUA ART QUA SCIENCE’s series of lectures on the subject of time:
KAIROS, lost god of time?
In the lecture I will take you into my perspective on Kairos and into
my creative interpretation of the Kairos clock.
One line from Dutch poet Willem Wilmink’s has long occupied my mind:
‘maar als je het niet ziet, is het er voor jou dus niet’.
I wonder if this also applies to Kairos.
